AD Ports enters into strategic agreements for further growth in Africa

The Republic of Angola’s Ministry of Transport and AD Ports Group signed a framework agreement on 19 January aiming to start working together on the development of maritime services and infrastructure throughout Angola.

In order to improve marine connection along Africa’s west coast, AD Ports Group has continued its consistent policy of international growth by striking strategic partnerships.

“The development of the Republic of Angola’s port infrastructure is a key priority of our 2023-2027 National Development Plan,” mentioned Ricardo Viegas D´Abreu, minister for transport of the Republic of Angola.

AD Ports Group has also entered into a Head of Terms agreement to form a joint venture with state-owned logistics and transportation company UNICARGAS, which manages the multipurpose terminal at the Port of Luanda, Angola’s busiest port that handles more than 70% of the country’s international imports and 80% of its non-petroleum exports. The new joint venture, with majority ownership by AD Ports Group, will work to modernise, manage, and operate the multipurpose terminal and the logistic business of UNICARGAS.

Ferry and cabotage services, marine passenger terminals, logistics platforms, as well as a maritime academy in Angola are among the areas identified under the strategic framework agreement between AD Ports Group and Angola’s ministry for possible future cooperative investment and growth. The framework agreement also addresses ideas for the potential expansion of Cabinda Port’s Caio Deepwater Terminal, which is located in northwest Angola’s oil-rich area.

The energy industry in particular is projected to profit significantly from enhanced connectivity, as the oil and gas sector contributes around 50% of Angola’s republic GDP and 90% of exports.

“Our collaboration with the Republic of Angola demonstrates AD Ports Group’s commitment to supporting the UAE’s strong and evolving relationship with Angola in line with the directions of our wise leadership,” stated Capt. Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, managing director and group CEO of AD Ports Group.
