Adriatic Gate Container Terminal sets new box handling records

The Adriatic Gate Container Terminal (AGCT), operated by International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI), in Croatia’s Port of Rijeka, recently achieved two significant milestones: a record monthly throughput and the highest single-vessel exchange.

AGCT’s new monthly throughput record surpasses the previous high set in July 2024 by 11%, highlighting the terminal’s expanding capacity and vital role as Croatia’s largest seaport and a regional logistics hub for the Balkans and Central Europe.

“We are pleased with the teamwork and efforts of our staff to achieve this new milestone. I am sure we will have a few more ahead. The result is even more pleasing given that we had been down to single berth operation with the 100-meter deepening project,” stated Emmanuel Papagiannakis, AGCT CEO.

He added: “We now see a return to two berth operations as the project is completed in October, improving the terminal’s service levels.”

Furthermore, AGCT set a single-vessel exchange record of 7,120 TEUs while handling Maersk Huacho, part of the 2M Alliance vessel-sharing service by Maersk and MSC, which connects China and other Far East ports to the Adriatic region.

In the meantime, rail throughput has shown recovery since the start of the Red Sea crisis, with rail now accounting for over 41% of AGCT’s total throughput.
