The Maersk Mc-Kinney Møller Centre for Zero Carbon Shipping and global law firm Allen & Overy signed a cooperation agreement to formalise their partnership.
With this agreement, Allen & Overy joins the Centre as a Knowledge Partner, committing to a long-term strategic engagement and commitment to the decarbonization of the marine industry.
Global warming is a climate emergency, and all sectors, including the marine industry, must act immediately to decrease emissions in accordance with the Paris Agreement’s 1.5°C trajectory, said the Centre in a statement, adding that this would need collaboration between the public and private sectors, among governments, citizens and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and among nations with different priorities.
According to the statement, the Centre’s cooperation with Allen & Overy strengthens its ability to create and deliver innovative decarbonisation initiatives throughout the world while navigating a diverse and demanding regulatory context.
“As we embark on the journey of introducing new low-emissions fuels to the maritime value chain, the perception and mitigation of risk to the value chain participants will change. Building on Allen & Overy’s deep experience, we will look to create transparency on risk and opportunity for stakeholders entering new markets” noted Bo Cerup-Simonsen, CEO of the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping.
