Due to difficulties caused by the Covid-19 crisis in Bangladesh, terminal operations and pick-up of inbound containers have been slow, according to APL. Consequently, the yards in Chittagong are reaching full capacity, and most reefer plugs are already occupied, adds the shipping company.
As such, APL says it is forced to divert reefer cargo to other ports. To cover the additional costs, CMA CGM -APL’s parent company- will apply the following port congestion surcharge (PCS), effective immediately (except from United States and Brazil, which takes effect from 10 May)
- Origin: From worldwide
- Destination: Chittagong, Bangladesh
- Cargo: Reefer only
- Amount: US$1300 per container
- Payment: By Freight Payer Party
For ongoing units and those which have already been rerouted, a specific surcharge will be calculated at the time of reloading as soon as space is made available at these terminals, added APL.
