APM Terminals Callao (APMTC) will supply an oxygen plant to the Regional Government of Callao, Peru, as an effort to support the battle against Covid-19 and as a part of its commitment to the city’s community.
The oxygen plant, which will be located in the Freddy Ternero sports training centre in the Ventanilla district of Callao, will have the capacity to supply 24 cylinders a day, each with 10m³ capacity and is planned to be operational this month.
“In the 10 years, we have operated the concession, we have always sought to contribute to the development and wellbeing of the local population and this has never been more important than during recent difficult times with the pandemic,” said Joel Ganoza, manager of Community Relations and Social Responsibility of APM Terminals Callao.
During the state of emergency, APMTC has supported 10,000 members of the community with medical personnel and donations and has delivered approximately 7 tons of food to 12 soup kitchens and the elderly, a children’s home and to neighbourhoods in Callao, benefiting more than 4,300 people in total.
In addition, the company has also delivered more than 43,000 items of personal protective equipment against Covid-19 to five hospitals and 16 health centres in Callao, as well as to representatives of the Police Station of the Peruvian city, which translates to the protection of more than 3,800 people in total, including healthcare personnel and police officers.
Maersk’s subsidiary, APM Terminals Callao also supports the Local Development Contribution Program, which seeks to generate a positive impact on the education, health and development of the local community.
“This initiative supports activities such as the delivery of scholarships for secondary and technical education, talks and health campaigns, and courses to support artisanal fishing, among others,” noted Joel Ganoza, who added that with these activities alone, more than 5,000 people in Callao have benefited over the last eight years.
