(APM Terminals Mumbai), Girish Aggarwal will become managing director (MD) for Gujarat Pipavav Port Ltd. (APM Terminals Pipavav) from 1 January 2023.
“Girish Aggarwal has led Gateway Terminals India Pvt. Ltd as COO since 2019, initiating GTI’s major berth and infrastructure improvement works. He and his team have consistently delivered to our customers and spearheaded one the most successful implementation of LEAN methodology among our terminals,” stated Jonathan R. Goldner, managing director, Asia and Middle East at APM Terminals.
Girish Aggarwal was a gold medallist in Bachelor of Technology and received a Post Graduate Diploma in Operations and Systems from the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB).

With the appointment of Girish Aggarwal, the current managing director in Pipavav Jakob Friis Sorensen, who completes his three-year assignment, will move to a new role at APM Terminals as a senior advisor and will relocate to Jakarta. He will also continue to serve as an advisor to GPPL’s Board of Directors. He will start in his new role on 1 January.
“I would like to thank Jakob for leading Pipavav since January 2019. During his tenure, Jakob and the team heroically rebuilt the port from the devastating typhoon Tauktae, while in the middle of severe COVID challenges,” commented Jonathan R. Goldner.
Sunay Mukerjee will take over the role previously held by Girish Aggarwal and become the new chief operating officer in Mumbai. He is the current chief commercial officer at Suez Canal Container Terminal in Egypt.
He joined A.P. Moller – Maersk over 19 years ago and has had leadership experience across Europe, India, Middle East, and Africa. His roles have spanned strategy and transformation, sales, business development, procurement and general management.
