APM Terminals will continue to operate the Port of itajaí in Brazil in the next year after the signing of a Transitory Lease Agreement from the Maersk-owned port and terminal operator and the Municipality of Itajaí, through the Superintendence of the Port (SPI).
The negotiations between the Brazilian port authority and APM Terminals were resumed on 11 November, when the SPI decided not to proceed with a transitional public notice, which had been agreed in August, but to resume talks with the current lessee.
“With this solution, there will be no interruption in operations,” pointed out APM Terminals in a statement.
In addition, with this decision, APM Terminals said that together with local and federal authorities, it was finally able to find alternatives to avoid the port’s shutdown.
