APM Terminals MedPort Tangier has launched the second phase of its development project, which is expected to increase its container capacity by 1 million TEU.
[s2If is_user_logged_in()]The terminal commenced operations in June 2019, following a total investment of US$800 million, and achieved a throughput of more than 2.2 million TEU in 2020 with productivity levels reaching above 30 crane moves per hour.
MedPort Tangier’s second phase of development will add an extra 400m in quay length, which will reach 1,600m total. This upgrade will lead to the box capacity increase overall capacity of the terminal to 5 million TEU.
“This new investment is an important milestone in both Morocco and Maersk’s long-term partnership and confirms its commitment to establishing a major transhipment hub in the Mediterranean,” said APM Terminals in its announcement.
