Five US$61.87 million-worth semi-automatic bridge cranes, built by Chinese ZPCM, were installed in the port of Ashdod in Israel.
Cranes equipped with advanced technology aim to assist in a rapid unloading and loading process, something necessary due to congestion in the supply chain.
The new equipment, which is expected to be fully operational by September, will be installed in the new container terminal created as part of the port’s investment to renovate and upgrade the pier 21.
Shiko Janna, CEO of the Port of Ashdod, said, “The Port of Ashdod is constantly working to alleviate congestion created resulting from the global supply crisis that has disrupted the operation of the world’s major ports since the outbreak of the corona pandemic.”
The ZENHUA36 cranes are adapted to work with ships with a capacity of up to 24,000 TEU and have a height of 140.6 metres in the raised arm position and 71 metres in the marine arm length. In addition, they can lift exceptional loads with a total weight of up to 95 tons.
Furthermore, the cranes include an option to be operated remotely from a control room using advanced camera and laser systems installed on the crane, and the option to operate semi-automatically when receiving commands directly from the Terminal Operating System (TOS).
“The bridge cranes, along with many other efforts, will help us reduce operational queues and promote technological improvements and, faster and more efficient management,“ added the port’s CEO.
