Asyad Ports opens Duqm container terminal

Asyad Group has initiated operations at the Asyad Container Terminal – Duqm, which will be operated by Asyad Ports, the group’s ports and terminals arm.

According to a statement, this development is part of Asyad’s expansion plans to provide integrated logistics solutions, stay ahead of global trade trends, and meet the needs of major players in the container industry.

Furthermore, the Asyad Container Terminal aims to position the Port of Duqm in Oman and the Special Economic Zone at Duqm as a global hub for container handling and integrated logistics. This expansion aligns with Asyad’s strategy to enhance the competitiveness of its services and increase port throughput.

“Operating Asyad Container Terminal is a significant milestone in our journey to develop and expand our portfolio and commercial operations. It signals the level of efficiency of Asyad Ports’ solutions as well as the strong confidence afforded to us by our global customers. Over the past two years, Asyad Ports has proven its ability to manage and operate several terminals for general cargo, bulk, and Ro-Ro,” stated Ahmed Al Abri, CEO of Asyad Ports.

Technically, the Asyad Container Terminal features remotely operated 65-ton twin lift STS cranes, 50-ton RTG cranes, and advanced technologies such as optic fiber data transfer systems and smart driving systems.

Also, the terminal’s infrastructure includes three berths capable of handling three ships simultaneously, a quay length exceeding 1,000 meters, and a yard storage capacity of 26,000 TEU and over 600 reefer containers.

During the pilot stage, the terminal efficiently handled the loads of large container vessels from Asia and Europe, showcasing its readiness and technical capabilities. This operational milestone demonstrates the terminal’s ability to accommodate ships of various sizes and purposes, meeting the increasing demands of local, regional, and global import-export activities.

Ahmed Akaak, acting CEO of the Special Economic Zone at Duqm, emphasized the significance of the new terminal in Oman’s economic diversification efforts. He highlighted that the venture would unlock investment opportunities by connecting the Special Economic Zone at Duqm with global shipping lines, leveraging Duqm’s strategic location at the crossroads of major international shipping lanes.

The Port of Duqm is expected to evolve into a key logistics hub, catering to global shipping lines from Asia and Europe in the coming years, reflecting Oman’s enhanced competitiveness and successful port integration.
