Delays of 10-13 days are being reported for ships to berth at the Port of Auckland, according to Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), which has introduced a congestion surcharge as a result.
The Swiss-based container line has said that its vessels continue to experience significant delays upon arrival at the port, while the situation is becoming even worse due to a lack of dock workers.
Congestion at the port has prompted MSC to introduced a congestion surcharge of US$300/TEU for all export cargo from Europe, Turkey and Israel to the port of Auckland, New Zealand, from B/L date 9 November 2020 onward.
In addition, for all cargo moving from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, Japan and South East Asia to the port of Auckland, a peak season surcharge of US$300/TEU will also be implemented, from the same date.
