According to a statement by the Lebanese Presidency, Austria and other members of the European Union have offered to contribute to the reconstruction of the port of Beirut.
In more detail, Austrian Chancellor Karl Neuhammer met with Lebanese President Michel Aoun to discuss ways to strengthen ties between the two countries.
“The port is very important, especially in light of the current food crisis; we have looked with Lebanese authorities into ways to cooperate in this regard,” Nehammer said after the meeting.
In addition, Nehamer expressed hope that a new Lebanese government will be formed quickly so that his country can work with it and provide the necessary assistance for port reconstruction and food support in light of the Russia-Ukraine crisis.
Aoun noted that Lebanon welcomes Austria’s contribution to the reconstruction of the port.
Lebanon is going through an economic crisis, which was further exacerbated by explosions in the port of Beirut that killed over 200 people and destroyed much of the city.
