Awake.AI and Intel introduce high tech port monitoring solution

More and more ports around the world are turning to the Internet of Things (IoT), advanced analytics and machine learning to enhance their operational performance.

With this in mind, Awake.AI and Intel have teamed up to combine edge, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and 5G technologies, leading port operations into the age of computing.

The Smart Port as a Service solution uses machine-learning models to detect objects in the port yard using sensors installed in the port area and automatically provides real-time awareness of utilisation rates and cargo flows.

Awake.AI and Intel enable this way ports, to enter the world of digitisation.

Among the positives that result from the use of that platform is the better use of the existing capacity, the reduced emissions of the port area, the accurate forecast of arrivals and departures in real time, the optimised port calls based on artificial intelligence and computer vision information, real-time information sharing and time and cost savings.

“For example, Lidar sensor data, often combined with other sources of data, can be used to optimise the arrival and departure of landside traffic. Sensors can detect congestion, enabling re-routing port gate and inner area traffic,” commented Karno Tenovuo, CEO of Awake.AI.

With a powerful, scalable data-driven platform capable of handling tens of millions of events a day, integrated into port systems, shipping line systems along with APIs, web and mobile tools that support automated and manual cargo flow events, Awake.AI can provide full end-to-end visibility through a cargo flow control center, according to a statement.

At the same time, port operators can receive interruption warnings of disruptions from expected normal operations along with the cargo flow.

“Smart Port as a Service and our cooperation with Awake.AI have great potential to revolutionise trade and to make it more sustainable,” said Maurits Tichelman, Intel vice president of sales and marketing.

“We can help transportation providers turn data into insights to achieve fast, efficient and informed use of transportation resources,” he added.
