Batangas Port, the comprehensive maritime gateway of Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) operated by listed Asian Terminals Inc. (ATI), has been recognized by the APEC Port Services Network (APSN) for its sustainable port practices.
APSN, comprised of port authorities and port operators in the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) region, awarded the Green Port Award System (GPAS) to ATI Batangas and Philippine Ports Authority’s Batangas Port Management Office.
As a green evaluation system for ports, GPAS recognizes efforts to promote green growth in the APEC port community. It also cites green and sustainable development in port and port-related industries and provides a platform for sharing best practices among ports in the APEC region, aligned with APSN’s vision of creating a sustainable future.
The GPAS is accorded after stringent review by the GPAS Experts Committee and upon approval by the APSN Council. Batangas Port was the sole recipient of GPAS in the Philippines for this year, along with four other ports in the APEC region.
As a strategic maritime hub, ATI’s Batangas Port follows comprehensive operational, safety and environmental protocols, guided by international management standards on Environment (ISO 14001:2015), Occupational Health and Safety (OHSAS 18001:2007), Quality (ISO 9001:2015) and Supply Chain Security (ISO28000:2007). Batangas Port is also compliant to the ISPS Code mandated by the International Maritime Organization.
Advocating corporate sustainability, ATI actively engages in eco-initiatives such as coastal and community clean-up drives as well as mangrove seeding and reforesting activities.
