BIMCO, one of the largest international shipping associations representing shipowners, has hired Gudrun Janssens as manager of intergovernmental engagement in its new office in Brussels, Belgium.
The organisation seeks to be closer to the European Union’s decision-making process and to continue to expand its global reach.
Gudrun Janssens has been head of environmental and technical affairs at the Royal Belgian Shipowners’ Association since 2019.
Prior to that, she held the position of director for maritime safety and environment at the European Community Shipowners’ Associations in Brussels. Tomorrow, on 1 November 2022, she will join BIMCO together with the opening of the new office in Brussels.
Gudrun Janssens has also worked in the field of ship recycling and has been involved in the evaluation and participation in relevant European and international initiatives on waste management in ports and from ships.
She holds a Master’s degree in port management from the University of Ghent, Belgium and has studied at the University of Orange Free State, South Africa with a focus on energy, environment and natural resources law.
“I am delighted to be joining BIMCO at a time when the shipping industry is facing unprecedented change, challenges, and opportunities, and look forward to representing members’ interests from right here in Brussels,” commented Janssens.
