Blockades in Canada impact rail operations

Industrial action in Canada has seen blockades of key rail track and port infrastructure facilities throughout the country and the Federal and Provincial Governments remain in dialogue with indigenous communities as they seek a resolution, reports Hapag-Lloyd.

CP Rail tracks remain comparatively clear, with Prince Rupert now also clear and the recovery programme is underway.

The blockade in Ontario remains in place, and CN’s Eastern Canadian network is more or less shutdown. A limited number of trains are operating in the Halifax/Montreal corridor. Various options to move /divert cargo out of Halifax are being explored, said Hapag-Lloyd

The German company said it is not clear yet how long the protests could last and the disruption continues as the blockades enter their third week. There has been inevitable disruption to the rail transportation of both domestic and international shipments, added Hapag-Lloyd.
