Box growth in Houston surges to new record

The container activity at Port Houston surged in 2019, logging a hefty 11% increase and setting a record, according to the executive director of the Port of Houston, Roger Guenther. The port handled 2,987,291 TEU.

Roger Guenther provided an annual report to the commission and highlighted some accomplishments in 2019, saying that the facility is well-positioned to continue the upward trend in 2020.

Last year marked the eighteenth consecutive year of container growth at the largest container port on the US Gulf Coast. Among the nation’s top ten container ports, Port Houston was 2019’s fastest-growing, according to data from maritime sector data vendor IHS Markit PIERS.
