Box volumes increase at Ports of Bremen

The ports of Bremen/Bremerhaven have recorded a positive trend in container traffic by the end of the year’s third quarter.

In September, the German ports handled almost 415,000TEU, bringing the total container throughput for the first nine months of 2021 to 3.8 million TEU, which is an increase of more than 10% compared to the January – September period of the previous year.

By the end of September, total cargo throughput at the quays in Bremen and Bremerhaven came to 52 million tons, reflecting a year-on-year growth of 7.5%. This figure breaks down into 45 million tons of general cargo, according to the German ports’ officials.

Claudia Schilling, Senator for Science and Ports, welcomed the positive results but added that “In view of the severe global problems regarding supply chains, this cannot be seen as a reliable trend. We have to continue our intensive efforts to improve the competitiveness of our ports.”
