Boxships crunched in Bangkok fairway

Two container vessels Wan Hai 272 and Santa Loukia collided in the Bangkok approach fairway at around 08:35 local time on 28 January, near buoy 9, according to Maritime Bulletin’s report.

The 1,805 TEU boxship Wan Hai 272 sustained portside damages in the fore cargo deck area and remained at the collision area, probably grounded, or entangled with buoy. Maritime Bulletin reported that as of 11:30 local time on 28 January, the vessel remained in the same position, with three tugs working on it.

The 1,700 TEU ship Santa Loukia suffered cargo deck damages, but was able to continue its voyage and arrived at the destination port of Bangkok on the same day. The Malta-flagged vessel left Bangkok on 29 January, bound for Laem Chabang in Thailand.

Wan Hai 272 was also sailing to Laem Chabang from Bangkok at the time of the incident.
