Brazil and Netherlands partner for eco-friendly port development

The Brazilian Waterborne Transportation Agency (ANTAQ) signed a cooperation agreement with the Netherlands on 5 March, with a major focus on fostering the development of eco-friendly ports within the country.

Spanning three years, this initiative, operating under a public-private partnership, seeks to facilitate Dutch companies in their endeavours to export to and invest in Brazil, while also aiding Brazilian enterprises in their investments and exports to the Netherlands.

In addition, this agreement marks a significant expansion of bilateral cooperation, aiming to facilitate knowledge transfer and stimulate both public and private projects in enhancing port logistics and advancing initiatives such as the production of green hydrogen.

According to a statement, the signing ceremony took place amidst the current edition of Intermodal, an annual event that gathers stakeholders from maritime, air, rail, and road transportation sectors.

“To keep national infrastructure modern, efficient, and able to meet new needs that raised from heightened demand, more investments are needed. This year, we have a hard-to-implement portfolio of port terminal auctions. We will launch a joint workforce to identify the existing bottlenecks and then propose infrastructure or regulatory works to tackle each of these issues,” commented Eduardo Nery, the general director of ANTAQ.
