Busan Port Authority and partners enhance port safety

Busan Port Authority (BPA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the telecommunications company KT and Sea Bank, aiming to prevent accidents and ensure safety in the port.

Upon the agreement, the three partners will collaborate on a pilot service for an Internet of things (IoT) distress notification system, and will jointly develop a port safety platform.

They also plan to expand and operate an IoT wireless coverage and hold field tests, according to a statement.

Developed by Sea Bank and using KT’s maritime long-term evolution (LTE) network, the distress notification system is the first device to automatically transmit the location data of those who face accidents, using the LTE technology.
