Cap Jackson suffers fire damage

The Maersk owned Cap Jackson has suffered a fire in its auxiliary engine room which has disabled the vessel, but there have been no injuries, reports Hapag-Lloyd, a slot charterer on the Mediterranean Pacific Service (MPS) on which the vessel operates.

The vessel operates on the MPS service for Hapag-Lloyd and the MCPS service for Hamburg Sud operating out of Livorno in Italy through the Panama Canal and north to ports in the US and as far as Vancouver in Canada.

The ship was reportedly preparing to enter the Panama Canal on 29 July when the engine room fire broke out. All crew were accounted for and no injuries were reported, according to Hapag-Lloyd.

The vessel has now entered the port of Balboa, on the Pacific side of the canal, where a repair plan will set out and contingency measures will be made for cargo distribution.
