The General cargo vessel Alica, a 2,470dwt vessel built in 1987, partially capsized while preparing to leave port after undergoing cargo operations at berth in Ho Chi Minh Port, Vietnam on 26 April.
According to the latest reports the vessel is resting on its port side on the bottom of the sea floor, but the list taken on by the vessel was enough to dislodge 18 containers on deck that were lost overboard.
Insurance claims consultancy WK Webster reported that, “Local Authorities are co-ordinating the salvage of the containers lost overboard although some of the containers are said to have been swept away on the current of the Saigon River.”
As a result of the local conditions there could be issues regarding the recovery of cargo as a result of this accident.
The Alica is owned by a Sarawak, Malaysia, based company called Realink SDN and is managed by Apollo Agencies of the same address, according to Equasis data.
