Chinese ports exceed 67 million TEU in first three months of 2022

China port’s container volume has risen by 2.4% in the first three months of the year, compared with the same period in 2021, reaching 67.4 million TEU.

Additionally, in terms of tons, Chinese ports saw year-on-year growth of 1.6%, handling 3.63 billion tons in the first quarter of 2022.

The following chart shows the cargo throughput and container throughput data of the twelve major ports in China.

Port of Shanghai remains the busiest container port in China with 8.16 million TEU in the first three months of the year, with Ningbo & Zhoushan and Shenzhen ports following, handling 5.25 million TEU and 4.28 million TEU respectively.

Furthermore, Dalian and Rizao and Lianyungang were the three ports that achieved the largest percentage increases of 27.7%, 10% and 10% respectively. On the other hand, Yinkou was the Chinese port that reported the largest container drop of 15.1% in the first quarter of the year with the port of Shenzhen following, marking a 10.9% container volume decrease compared with 2021 Q1.
