CMA CGM made an order to Konecranes for seven hybrid Noell Rubber-Tired Gantry (RTG) cranes to equip its Kaohsiung Terminal in Taiwan.
According to the agreement’s announcement, the commissioning will take place in the third quarter of 2024, with handover scheduled a few months later, in the last quarter of the year.
These seven new Konecranes Noell hybrid RTGs use a battery for regular operations, add diesel when extra power is needed, and collect braking energy to recharge the battery.
This diesel-electric power combination decreases fuel consumption and carbon emissions for greener and more affordable operation. Furthermore, each machine has an ergonomic cabin and a variety of smart technologies that increase efficiency and decrease operator fatigue.
Additionally, the Auto-Steering smart function on RTGs uses GPS to assist the operator in keeping the RTG on a straight drive path. The spreader is automatically positioned over the right container slot by Auto-Positioning. Stack Profiling remembers the layout of each container bay and collaborates with Auto-Steering to ensure that the crane is appropriately aligned with the container.
Also, the cranes use Auto-TOS (Terminal Operating System) reporting to keep track of their own movements, map the location of each container, and communicate directly with the TOS.
