The global shipping line CMA CGM has decided to change the date of application of the ban on the use of plastic onboard its ships, in an effort to enforce its commitment to the protection of the oceans and biodiversity.
The initial announcement earlier in February said that the French liner operator will stop transporting any plastic waste aboard its ships, with effect from 1 June.
Now, CMA CGM confirmed the change of the application date to 15 April. “No plastic waste will be loaded onboard CMA CGM Group’s vessels as from 15 April 2022,” said the French company.
The Marseille-based ocean carrier noted that plastic waste is identified under HS code category 3915, and it has set up a ban on HS code for commodities concerned in its booking system to ensure the effectiveness of this measure.
“Please note that false declarations on the nature of the goods will lead to a blacklisting of the incriminated entity,” said CMA CGM in its statement.
