CMA CGM introduces new peak season surcharges from China to Africa

Marseille-based box line CMA CGM will apply new peak season surcharges in the next few days for shipments from China to African destinations.

CMA CGM announced a peak season surcharge (PSS) of US$1,500 per TEU for dry containers shipped from North, Central and South China to Liberia, Senegal, Mauritania, Gambia, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Guinea-Bissau, Cape Verde and Sao Tome & Principe.

The surcharge for shipments from North and Central China will be effective starting 18 May, while for cargo from South China, it will take effect on 20 May.

Additionally, the ocean carrier will implement a PSS of US$1,250 per TEU for dry cargo from China to Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire, Benin, Ghana, Togo and Equatorial Guinea.

CMA CGM noted the surcharge will take effect on 18 May for South China cargo and on 20 May for containers from Central and North China.

Furthermore, the liner operator will apply a same-level PSS (US$1,250/TEU) for dry cargo from all Chinese ports to Angola, Congo, DRC, Namibia, Gabon and Cameroon, effective from 20 May.
