CMA CGM launches new intermodal Italy-Turkey connection

CMA CGM Group has decided to add a new port call at Taranto, Italy on its TURMED service, which links Turkey and Tunisia via the company’s Malta port hub.

With this new call, starting from 10 July, CMA CGM says it will connect Italy and Turkey in just three days. Daily train departures at the Port of Taranto will provide a further, fast and efficient intermodal link towards Central and Northern Italy, particularly the cities of Milan, Piacenza, Bologna, Jesi and Marcianise.

The TURMED service, in which four 1,100TEU container vessels will be deployed, also calls Tunisia as well as Malta, providing access to CMA CGM’s global network of services, which reach more than 420 ports on five continents.

The Marseille-based shipping firm describes the service as a “new and efficient intermodal link between Italy and Turkey, connecting with the Mediterranean and the rest of the world.”

The French operator claims that its upgraded service introduces an eco-friendlier transport alternative, allowing its customers to reduce their carbon footprint.
