CMA CGM launches recycling initiative in Indonesia

CMA CGM has announced the start of Easy Recycling, an initiative to enable the group’s customers with shipments to Jakarta, Indonesia, to dispose of used paper and plastic packaging.

Clients who opt for Easy Recycling will unpack their cargo and leave their used packaging in returning containers heading for CMA CGM’s depot in Cakung, Indonesia. The used paper and plastic packaging from the depot will be picked up and sorted for recycling.

Easy recycling will be available only for CMA CGM’s customers in Jakarta as part of a trial aiming to expand the service to other Asian countries thereafter.

The French shipping company said it is local initiative that follows its stance to stop transporting plastic waste from 1 June 2022, preventing their export to destinations where sorting, recycling, or recovery cannot be assured.

John Lim, president director of CMA CGM Indonesia, commented, “The CMA CGM Group is committed to protecting the environment and advocates responsible plastic waste disposal.”

He added, “The launch of Easy Recycling service follows our Group’s stance to stop transporting plastic waste to prevent their exportation to destinations where sorting, recycling, or recovery cannot be assured. With Easy Recycling, our customers in Jakarta can be certain that the used packaging are collected and recycled responsibly.”
