CMA CGM receives A- rating from the Carbon Disclosure Project

The CMA CGM Group has received an A- rating from the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) in its 2023 climate index.

The Carbon Disclosure Project stands as one of the primary environmental performance benchmarks for major corporations globally.

CMA CGM said this recognition emphasizes the significant advancements made by the Group in reducing carbon emissions from its shipping operations, demonstrating its leadership in driving the transition towards a more environmentally sustainable transportation and logistics sector.

The French container shipping company now ranks among the top 19% of maritime entities achieving Leadership status within the Carbon Disclosure Project this year, surpassing the sector’s average rating of B.

The year 2023 witnessed an acceleration of CMA CGM Group’s decarbonization efforts, marked by reinforced commitment and tangible initiatives:

  • A commitment to align with the high trajectory set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO): aiming for a 30% reduction by 2030 and an 80% reduction by 2040
  • Significant investments in new energy sources, asset modernization, and innovative solutions
  • A target to decrease greenhouse gas emissions from maritime activities by 1 million tons between 2023 and 2022
  • The introduction of incentives for top management to meet climate objectives

CMA CGM remains steadfast in its pursuit of a low-carbon transportation and logistics industry.

The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) is a non-profit organization dedicated to disclosing data concerning the environmental footprint of the globe’s leading corporations, established in the UK in 2000.

By 2023, the organization had evaluated over 23,000 companies, marking a remarkable 140% increase over four years. CDP assesses companies on a scale from D to A, taking into account their endeavours, advancements, and level of transparency in mitigating their environmental impact.
