CMA CGM has announced a new service, while it has also updated two existing services in the West Africa region.
[s2If is_user_logged_in()]The French line will launch its new MEDWAX service today, 14 January, from the port of Algeciras, aiming to enhance the current existing 31 services to Sub-Saharan Africa.
CMA CGM will be the sole operator of the service, deploying five container vessels of 2,500TEU nominal capacity.
The MEDWAX service’s rotation will be: Algeciras – Tangier – Conakry – San Pedro – Abidjan – Dakar seasonal call – Algeciras.
The new service will offer a “lean product and a weekly service from worldwide to the Republic of Guinea and Ivory Coast through our operational Med hub,” said CMA CGM who added that “Dakar will be offered to our exporters on a seasonal call basis to meet the demand during the reefer season.”
In addition to the new MEDWAX service, the carrier has proceeded with changes to its EURAF 3 and WAZZAN services.
EURAF 3 is a dedicated service to the north range West Africa market. Effective from 16 January, the 2,260TEU boxship CMA CGM Fort Saint Louis will have the following port coverage: Tangier – Algeciras – Freetown – Monrovia – Banjul – Tangier.
In the meantime, the WAZZAN service, which is involved in the Mauritania and Dakar markets, covers the following port rotation from 12 January: Casablanca – Algeciras – Tangier – Nouakchott – Dakar – Nouadhibou – Las Palmas – Casablanca.
Meanwhile, CMA CGM has announced the implementation of a peak season surcharge of US$150 (€125, £110)/container from North Europe to West Africa, except Nigeria. This new surcharge will apply to dry, out of gauge and breakbulk cargo and will be effective from 1 February.[/s2If]
