The 1,078TEU Luebeck of the Greek ship owner, Costamare, has suffered a fire incident at the Catania port in Sicily, Italy on 16 September, according to Maritime Bulletin’s report.
The fire broke out in a container on board the container vessel, with the report saying that the box was loaded with yellow phosphate, a flammable substance emitting toxic gases when is on fire.
The fire was taken under control by firefight and Coast Guard teams, with the deployment of tug or tugs, and the container was offloaded, according to the report.
Container News has contacted Costamare, but at the time of writing, there is no comment from the side of the company.
The 20 years old feeder ship, which has been chartered to MSC, is currently moored at the Port of Catania, according to the global ship tracking system, MarineTraffic.
