Container discharge from MOL Charisma to start in Singapore

The cargo discharging process for containers on the fire damaged MOL Charisma, is expected to commence in Singapore today, 24 September.

The 8,110TEU container vessel, MOL Charisma, which sufferred a hold fire off Sri Lanka on 1 September, is scheduled to berth in Singapore today, 24 September, according to reports from MOL’s alliance partner Hapag-Lloyd.

The plan is to arrange for damaged containers in cargo hold 5, where the fire began, to be discharged first, then discharge all other cargo on board, explained the German carrier. However, discharging operations are expected to be slow in view of safety concerns.

The 2007-built MOL Charisma arrived in Singapore anchorage on September 13, as MOL told Container News on 10 September.
