Container imports and exports on rise in Los Angeles

Port of Los Angeles (POLA) marked a year-over-year increase for a third consecutive month in October, handling 725,775 TEUs, translating to a 7% growth compared to the same month last year.

In particular, loaded imports landed at 372,455 TEUs in the previous month, an increase of 11% compared to the previous year’s October. Moreover, loaded exports reached 121,277 TEUs, a significant growth of 35% compared to October 2022. At the same time, empty containers totalled 232,043 TEUs, representing an 8% decline year-over-year.

In the first ten months of 2023, the Californian port has processed 7,123,900 TEUs, translating to a year-over-year 16.6% decrease.

“Our terminal operators, labor and other stakeholders have worked hard to earn cargo market share back over the last three months,” said POLA executive director, Gene Seroka. “Additionally, November is also shaping up to be a strong month as we see a final holiday push and warehouse replenishment.”
