The Port of Osaka handled 2,129,417TEU in 2019, up 2% from the previous year, based on preliminary figures. The total consisted of 967,940TEU in exports, up 2%, and 1,161,477TEU in imports, up 1%.
As for loaded containers, 409,903TEU were exported, down 4%, and 1,126,599TEU were imported, up 1%, for a total of 1,536,502TEU, which remained nearly unchanged. Empties (exports and imports) numbered 592,915TEU in total, up 7%.
In December, a total of 180,352TEU of full and empty containers were moved to and from Osaka, down 1% from a year earlier. Exports decreased 1% to 85,702TEU, and imports fell as much, going down 1% to 94,650TEU. Focusing on full containers, 36,568TEU were exported, down 6%, and 92,210TEU were imported, which almost levelled off. Full containers totaled 128,778TEU, down 2%. Exports and imports of empties came to 51,574TEU in total, up 1%.
