Copenhagen Malmö Port to receive new STS cranes

Copenhagen Malmö Port’s (CMP’s) new STS-cranes, which will be installed at the new container terminal in Ydre Nordhavn, have begun their journey to Denmark.

CMP is expected to start receiving the new Konecranes equipment by the end of this week. These large cranes will be shipped one at a time to the new container terminal in Ydre Nordhavn and are expected to arrive a few weeks apart.

“The cranes’ journey to Denmark takes about four days, followed by a few days at the quay for securing and preparing for installation on the designated crane tracks at the container terminal. The journey from one of the world’s leading crane suppliers is the culmination of long-term planning and execution in close collaboration between us and Konecranes,” stated Povl Dolleris Røjkjær Ungar, COO at Copenhagen Malmö Port.

The cranes weigh approximately 1,150 tonnes each and are just over 77 metres high. With the boom raised, they reach a height of 108 meters. This size, combined with several new features such as remote control and semi-automatic operation, will strengthen the new terminal handling capabilities.

The machines are expected to be put into operation after testing when the box terminal’s operations are moved from their current location at Levantkaj in the second half of 2025.
