COSCO introduces Far East to South America West Coast service

COSCO SHIPPING Chancay Port commenced trial operations on 14 November, marked by the successful unloading of new energy vehicles and other transportation products from COSCO SHIPPING HONOR and COSCO TENG FEI at the Peruvian port.

Peruvian COSCO terminal commences operations

The maiden voyage of COSCO TENG FEI, carrying 2,756 vehicles, embarked from China’s port of Shanghai to Chancay and other South American destinations, inaugurating COSCO SHIPPING automobile carrier fleet’s direct Far East-South America West Coast service.

Simultaneously, COSCO SHIPPING HONOR completed the discharge of equipment and frame containers within a single day before successfully departing from Chancay Port.

COSCO said the launch of the South American West Coast service by Yuanhai Car Carrier marks is expected to strengthen transportation efficiency for commercial vehicles, major equipment, and other goods between China and Peru. This new route is the fourth liner service launched by the company, following the successful establishment of routes to the Persian Gulf, Southeast Africa, and Europe.

This newly introduced route offers a monthly sailing schedule, primarily calling at Chancay, Peru, and San Antonio, Chile. Additionally, it includes ports of call in Colombia, Ecuador, and other countries within the region.

What’s the strategy behind Chinese port investments in Latin America?

While promoting the direct “Shanghai-Chancay” route, Yuanhai Car Carrier also aims to provide customers with solutions, including warehousing, Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI), distribution, and an array of value-added services.

Furthermore, the company is integrating local resources to establish a multimodal distribution network covering sea, road, and rail transport. This move is expected to facilitate the gradual realization of vehicle distribution across South America, offering clients a broad spectrum of “port-to-door” terminal services.
