COSCO Shipping Ports reports 8.6 million TEU in January

COSCO Shipping Ports Limited has made a decent start of the year handling more than 8.6 million TEU in January across all of its terminals worldwide.

Yantian International Container Terminals Ltd. in the Pearl River Delta region achieved the best performance among all of the COSCO-owned port companies in the world with approximately 1.2 million TEU in January, followed by Guangzhou Terminals in the same region with 945,200 TEU.

Tianjin Container Terminals stood out in the Bohai Rim area handling 674,100 TEU, while Shanghai Mingdong Container Terminals Limited was the most successful port/terminal operator in the Yangtze River Delta totalling 604,300 TEU.

Meanwhile, COSCO has increased by 12.8% its total box throughput in its overseas terminals with COSCO-PSA Terminal Private Ltd. and Piraeus Container Terminal S.A. leading the race reporting 394,400 TEU and 386,800 TEU respectively.

“For the month of January, total throughput (excluding QPI) remained unchanged over the same period last year due to the disposal of Tianjin Euroasia Terminal starting from 3 December 2021, which throughput of this terminal would no longer be included in the Company’s throughput,” said COSCO in its statement.

“In the meantime, the throughput of our terminals in the overseas region continued to grow benefitting from strong trade demand,” added the Chinese shipping giant.
