COSCO to receive two electric feeder boxships in 2023

COSCO has announced that it held a ceremony for the launch of the construction of two electric container ships with a capacity of 700 TEUs.

The opening ceremony of the project for the two electric vessels managed by COSCO SHIPPING Development was successfully held at COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry in Yangzhou, China.

The project was designed to serve the main line of the Yangtze River, according to COSCO’s statement.

The first ship is expected to be delivered in the second half of next year. As a model ship of green intelligent electric shipping, it is the first electric vessel of COSCO SHIPPING Development and also a 10,000-DWT vessel for sea-river-through transportation with ‘box power’ as the main power source for propulsion.

COSCO said the project is an important step in order to achieve China’s dual carbon targets, facilitate green, zero-carbon shipping, and support the green transformation of shipping in the Yangtze River waters.
