Costamare proceeds with its fleet renewal

Costamare has unveiled the acquisition of three containerships and the sale of another two, continuing its fleet renewal, according to the company’s third-quarter financial report.

The Greek ship owner has bought the 2007-built JPO Scorpios of 2,572TEU nominal capacity from the German shipping company Oltmann, while it has agreed with other firms to acquire a 2006-built boxship of 5,600TEU capacity and a 4,200TEU vessel built-in 2011.

The 1,162TEU Zagora and 4,890TEU Singapore Express, built in 1995 and 2000 respectively, will not be part of Costamare’s fleet, which after the latest moves will include 72 ships.

Costamare, which has chartered in total 13 vessels over the third quarter, has announced a net income of US$25.2 million or $0.14 per share in the specific period, while its Q3 voyage revenues reached US$107.9 million.

Another noteworthy move of the Athens-based company in the third quarter is the installation of scrubbers on board the two 2013-built sister containerships of 8,827TEU capacity, MSC Athens and MSC Athos, drawing down a total amount of US$12 million for their financing.
