Couple’s corpses found in Evergreen container in Bangkok

The decomposing remains of a man and a woman were found in an empty container in an inland container depot in Bangkok, Thailand on 2 October.

The container, belonging to Evergreen Marine Corporation, was declared as empty and had arrived in Thailand’s Laem Chabang port from the Philippines on 28 September, after a four-day voyage. The container was railed to the depot in Bangkok’s Lat Krabang district the same day.

The depot staff made the gruesome discovery as they were about to clean the box.

Medical examinations suggest that the couple had been dead for at least two weeks. There were no signs of injuries or struggle on either corpse and no identification documents were found.

Both corpses, which have been sent to Police General Hospital for a post-mortem, were bloated. The man was clad only in shorts and was tattooed on his back, chest and arms. The woman wore a t-shirt and trousers and had a ring on her right ring finger.

Bangkok Post reported that empty containers are not locked. No missing persons reports have been received in Lat Krabang and Laem Chabang and police are enquiring with the Philippines embassy to establish the identities of the corpses.
