Direct container traffic between Taiwan and China totaled 2,492,372 TEU in 2019, down 2.86% compared to 2,565,638 TEU, according to statistics compiled by Taiwan’s Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC).
Kaohsiung and Keelung, the two of the four major ports in Taiwan, suffered negative growth, handling 1,216,145 TEU, down 8.54%, and 593,765 TEU, down 0.05%, respectively. On the other hand, throughput improved at Taichung and Taipei, which went up 5.68% to 562,823 TEU, and 9.26% to 119,639 TEU.
