Crowley to commence multimodal service between Mexico, US Midwest and Canada

Crowley, a worldwide supply chain provider, will begin an end-to-end integrated maritime and train service between Mexico and the Midwest area of the United States, as well as into Canada.

The service, which will use Crowley’s new Mexico-U.S. ocean route in the Gulf, will take advantage of the Canadian National Railway Company’s highly efficient inland rail network and its US rail subsidiary Canadian National.

The combined network of the firms gives a broad reach across the Midwest and into Canada, increasing options for global customers in North American markets.

According to Crowley’s announcement, aside from a new ocean shipping route from Tuxpan (Mexico) to Mobile (Alabama) which avoids inland transportation congestion at the US-Mexico border, the link to Canadian National’s best-in-class rail service from Mobile to the Midwest and into Canada will provide customers with the fastest, most environmentally efficient transit times versus truck emissions, with five to six times less fuel used per tonne transported.

In September, ships sailing weekly between Tuxpan and Mobile will transport up to 1,000 TEUs and more than 200 refrigerated containers.
