Dachser road revenues stumble, but sea & air catch the fall

Sea and air freight logistics income compensated Dachser for a small loss from its major business of road logistics in 2020 as the pandemic altered the pattern of business and consumer logistics, said the company.

A 0.9% decrease in overall net revenues of €5.61 billion (US$6.71 billion) as a result of 2.2% decline in road transport business, was offset to some extent by the smaller overall business that makes up its Air & Sea Logistics division which saw a 5.2% increase. However, the road logistics business declined by €99 million (US$118.45 million) compared to a €59 million (US$70.59 million) increase in sea and air business.

In addition Dachser CEO Burkhard Eling, claimed, “Following a solid first quarter, the lockdowns in many European countries meant sometimes drastic declines in overland transport shipments.”

European logistics saw a 3.7% year-on-year decline of €117 million (US$140 million), even so the result could have been worse, but as Eling pointed out, “There was a clear improvement by June, with volumes remaining more or less consistently above 2019 levels. Our business model has proved that it can withstand crises, at the same time boasting strong growth potential and adaptability.”
