Daewoo Logistics opens storage container yard in Busan

Daewoo Logistics will open a container yard catering to Busan New Port on 24 August, capable of handling 3,580 TEU daily.

Due to ongoing logistical bottlenecks, Busan New Port’s current storage facilities have been stretched, necessitating the creation of makeshift storage in other areas within the compound.

The 45,608-square metre facility is located in Jinhae district in Changwon in South Gyeongsam province. The Busan-Jinhae Economic Free Economic Zone is a logistics hub in northeast Asia.

Daewoo Logistics said that the yard will be equipped with electric facilities on the floor to handle refrigerated and frozen containers, and will be operating at night on weekdays and on holidays to compensate for the shortcomings of the existing yards in Busan New Port.

The company explained that it is boosting safety in the yard by developing its own computer systems, which are wireless, enabling work to be carried out without on-site personnel.

A Daewoo Logistics official said, “Operations at the temporary storage facility that is in place to process export containers are not progressing smoothly due to lack of infrastructure. We hope to play our part in easing the logjam.”
