Davie Shipbuilding partners with Canadian government on newbuilding programmes

Davie Shipbuilding is now an official partner in Canada’s National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS) after an agreement including an initial minimum of US$8.5 billion in shipbuilding programmes.

As part of the NSS, the Canadian shipbuilding company Davie will be called upon to build the largest and most technologically advanced ships ever built in and for Canada.

The initial package of work includes seven icebreakers and two large hybrid-powered ferries.

A report prepared by Deloitte and made public in November 2022 said that up to 4,700 well-paid, long-term careers will be created or sustained by Davie over the next 20 years, while the agreement is expected to lead to up to $21 billion in overall impact on the Canadian economy over the next 20 years.

“The Government of Canada is happy to welcome Chantier Davie as the third strategic partner under the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS). This addition to the NSS will benefit workers in the Quebec region and provide the Canadian Coast Guard with the vessels it needs to do its important work,” commented, Helena Jaczek, Canada’s minister of Public Services and Procurement.
