All maritime traffic has been halted at the Port of Valencia and the Port of Sagunto due to the severe DANA storm, which has tragically claimed at least 158 lives.
On the morning of Tuesday, October 30, the Valencia area was grappling with the storm’s aftermath, featuring closed roads, flooded rail lines, and ports unable to operate. The Emergency Coordination Centre has issued a red alert for the Valencia province coast and its northern interior.
The severe flooding in Valencia has led to significant disruptions in shipping and logistics, prompting major ocean carriers to issue advisories. Hapag-Lloyd, a leading German container shipping company, announced that “due to the recent heavy rainfall across southeastern Spain, we are currently facing unavoidable disruptions to our transport schedules.”
The extreme weather has affected road safety and temporarily limited available transport routes in the region. Hapag-Lloyd said it is actively seeking alternative routes to mitigate the impact of these disruptions.
