DHL Global Forwarding will provide the German Hypermarket chain Kaufland with sustainable marine fuels that will play a crucial role in decreasing the environmental impact of ocean freight transports.
In particular, Kaufland will establish GoGreen Plus service in all of its full container load (FCL) shipments in order to reduce its annual carbon emissions by approximately 12,000 tonnes of CO2e tank-to-wheel (TtW).
This step is a milestone in the 12-year-old collaboration of the companies as the new marine fuels are paving Kauland’s way for decarbonisation. “We can now reduce our carbon emissions while continuing to offer our customers products from all over the world,” stated Managing Director International Transport Logistics at Kaufland Alexander Frohmann.
DHL Global Forwarding which is Deutsche Post DHL Group’s air and ocean freight specialist is working to fully decarbonise ocean transports for its customers by choosing sustainable marine fuels for both less-than-container load (LCL) shipments and full container load (FCL) shipments.
Moreover, the forwarding company DHL handles its non-food merchandise ocean transports, 70% of which are shipped via the main trade lane between China and Germany.
“The demand for green transport solutions is growing steadily as companies are becoming increasingly aware of, and indeed taking on their environmental responsibility,” said Head of Ocean Freight and China Rail, DHL Global Forwarding Germany, Felix Heger, who went on to add that “our service opens up the use of sustainable marine fuels and is proving to be very popular with our customers.”
While the mother company of Kaufland, Schwarz Group, aims to reduce its operational greenhouse gas emissions by 55% compared to 2019, until 2030, Kaufland has set the target of reducing its operational greenhouse gas emissions by 80% within the same period, through the support of DHL Global Forwarding, which is investing US$8.2 million in climate-neutral logistics solutions such as optimising the carbon efficiency of its transport network, its fleet and its real estate.
