DNV and zero44 forge partnership for EU ETS compliance

zero44, a software start-up focused on decarbonization, has teamed up with DNV’s Veracity maritime cloud platform to jointly assist clients in managing compliance with the European Union Emission Trading System (EU ETS).

The software of zero44 is specifically tailored to Greenhouse Gas Emission (GHG) regulations, offering functionalities for overseeing EU ETS obligations by monitoring allowances and financial transactions and facilitating direct access to EUA trading and the Union Registry.

“Continuous data verification after each voyage is crucial to account for EUA settlements between stakeholders accurately. Integrating with Veracity and Emissions Connect enables our customers to base their EUA or cash invoices on verified data to help them avoid claim management and bad surprises at the ETS submission deadline in September 2025. And through the partnership our EU ETS offering now is truly ‘plug-and-play’ – if you are an Emissions Connect customer, you can switch on zero44 by the click of a button in your Veracity Data Workbench,” stated Friederike Hesse, founder and CEO of zero44.

The software caters to various charter types and business models (such as time charters, voyage charters, off-hires, and idle periods). It accommodates perspectives from all stakeholders (including owners, charterers, and managers), supporting ETS invoicing, payments, and trading activities.

Launched in 2022, the Veracity Integrated Partner (VIP) program enables established data providers to integrate with the platform, delivering authorized real-time data according to DNV’s Operational Vessel Data (OVD) standard and verified by the class society.

Through this collaboration, mutual clients can streamline ETS processes by automating data processing, from vessel to verification. Users can use connectors within the Veracity Data Workbench to establish an automated flow of validated data from Veracity to zero44’s EUA settlement software.

Furthermore, Gram Car Carriers of Norway has been unveiled as the inaugural beneficiary of the new integrated offering.

“For Gram Car Carriers it is vital to base all our EU ETS settlements with customers on verified data. We decided to use DNV Emissions Connect to have monthly and voyage data verified throughout the financial year,” commented Børre Mathisen, COO at Gram Car Carriers.
