DP World has opened a rail-linked container freight station (CFS) at India’s Hazira Port, as the global marine terminal operator seeks to scale up its container integrator offerings out of the country.
Hazira is an emerging alternative container gateway on India’s west coast, with its terminal infrastructure managed by Adani Ports.
DP World, in a statement, said the CFS is capable of handling up to 36,000 containers annually.
“The facility is equipped with advanced technology and security systems, as well as specialized equipment for handling various types of cargo, including perishables and hazardous materials,” the company said.
It further noted, “The world-class CFS will boost economic growth and competitiveness, as well as help drive overall logistics efficiencies in the region.”
DP World — holding five box terminal concessions across five major Indian port locations — is eyeing synergistic benefits from this inland infrastructure consolidation.
According to Rizwan Soomar, DP World’s CEO/managing director for India Subcontinent/Sub-Saharan Africa, “The Port of Hazira is a vital gateway for trade and commerce along the western coast of India.”
Soomar added, “We are confident that our newly launched CFS will enhance the port’s role as a critical link in the global supply chain and create new opportunities for businesses by improving their connectivity to the markets they serve.”
He went on to explain, “The strategic synergies between Hazira port, DP World’s rail linked CFS and multimodal logistics capabilities will enable businesses to expand into new markets while driving cost efficiencies and boosting trade in western, central, and north India.”
DP World has made significant inroads into the Indian inland logistics market in recent years, through a string of targeted acquisition deals for container depots at various Indian locations and additional investment in intermodal rail network expansion.

DP World said the new CFS will serve as a hub for consolidating and deconsolidating cargo, facilitating customs clearance, and providing warehousing and distribution services. In addition, the company said the facility will offer customers value-added services, such as labelling, repackaging, and quality control, to meet the diverse needs of customers.
“The facility is expected to play a crucial role in facilitating the flow of goods and information, reducing costs and delays, and improving the overall efficiency and competitiveness of the logistics industry,” it added.
